Through the Accord, Pfizer is offering the full portfolio of medicines and vaccines for which it holds global rights on a not-for-profit basis.

This includes hundreds of prevention and treatment options – around 40% of which are on the World Health Organization’s list of essential medicines – for many of the most significant infectious and non-communicable diseases impacting these countries. The commitment includes both current and future products.

Providing medicines and vaccines is just one step.

To support long-term, sustainable access and maximize impact, we are working together with governments, the global health community and others who share our vision to understand and address barriers that limit or prevent access to medicines and vaccines.

Backed by extensive experience and expertise, the Accord is working to provide support in 3 key areas:

Health Workforce Learning & Development

Health Workforce Learning & Development

A strong healthcare work force is essential to achieving national healthcare goals.

We’re collaborating with national health authorities to better understand their priorities and areas of unmet medical needs, and then working with experts to develop in-person and virtual disease-specific education to expand knowledge in key specialty areas.

We’re also tapping into expert communities nationally and globally to create peer-to-peer platforms providing greater access to best practices and experience sharing.

Supply Chain Enhancement

Supply Chain Enhancement

The transport, storage, and distribution of medicine and vaccines is vital to the ability of public health systems reaching every patient.

The Accord is working with countries to better understand their needs and challenges across the supply chain and can provide support and best practices to help make systems more resilient. Leveraging decades of Pfizer experience in logistics, we can also provide best-practices to Accord-eligible countries on key supply chain components.

For example, in Rwanda, a team of our experts provided the country’s supply chain workforce with training on cold chain management for a board of country health engineers.

More Efficient Regulatory Paths

More Efficient Regulatory Paths

Medicines and vaccines can take much longer to reach low- and middle-income countries.

The Accord is collaborating with governments, national regulatory agencies (NRAs) and international agencies to explore opportunities for greater efficiency and harmonization, as permissible under local laws and regulations.

We're bringing regulatory experts together to discuss these challenges and identify potential solutions to reduce approval timelines and help get medicines to those who need them faster.

Healthy collaboration helps create a healthier world.

Our partners and our partnerships are vital to what the Accord can accomplish. Together, we can strengthen health systems and speed access to life-saving and life-changing medicines and vaccines.

President of Rwanda

“Combined with additional investments in strengthening Africa’s public health systems and pharmaceutical regulators, the Accord is an important step toward sustainable health security for countries at every income level.”

His Excellency Paul Kagame

President of Rwanda

President of Malawi

“The great thing about this Accord is that it helps low-income countries without violating their dignity and agency as people, for it is a true partnership that involves both Pfizer and countries like Malawi sharing the burden of costs and tasks in the production and delivery of supplies that will save millions of lives.”

His Excellency Lazarus Chakwera

President of Malawi

General Surgeon

“The world is a global village. Once we are able to collaborate, not just amongst us here, but with other healthcare professionals across the globe we are able to offer the best of care to our patients.”

Dr. Florence Dedey

General Surgeon at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Senior Lecturer, Dept. of Surgery at University of Ghana Medical School

Pediatrician

“I believe that if we want success in whatever we do, collaboration is part of it, to bring people in to help, and in the end, they can achieve something good. I believe this is happening – we are able to collaborate.”

Dr. Vivian Paintsil

Pediatrician Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Ghana

The Accord is focused on 45 lower-income countries.

We aim to empower healthcare systems and improve patient outcomes in places that have historically been more vulnerable to healthcare inequalities.
